This past week the 8th grade continued their study of the Colombian Exchange. What a gold mine for the food world! We focused on this map, which shows the exchange the occurred between the Old World and the New World.
You can see from our map that many goods were transferred between these two areas. Can you tell the lasting affect that this had on today’s world?
We decided to focus on corn, which is currently one of the top 5 most consumed foods worldwide. Unfortunately, our farm didn’t have a great deal of success growing corn this harvest season, so we decided to focus on cornbread instead. This also allowed us to practice our baking skills, as well as talk about this traditional dish of Latin America. And boy did we learn! Here were some of our results:
